Kindness, Times Three

As I was riding the 43 bus from the U District to Downtown today, I saw an act of kindness payed forward – twice.

A guy got on the bus and, apparently, told the driver he didn’t have money for the fare. The driver replied something along the lines of “no problem”, and the man took a seat near the front door.

(Back when I drove buses, we were instructed to ask for the fare once, and then don’t press the issue. This driver not only did not press the issue, he looked as if he welcomed the man on the bus.)

Later on, a woman exited the bus and as she passed the man, she handed him a dollar.

Instead of pocketing the money, the man put it in the fare box. The driver gave him a transfer.

It was great to see this little chain of kindness.
