Her

I’ve just finished watching the most moving, emotional film I have seen in a long time. I’m feeling a little numbed by the experience, and I’m still trying to process what I’ve seen. Our second DVD from Netflix – Her – arrived today.

Basically, Her is the story of a lonely, introverted writer, going through a divorce, who falls in love with his computer’s operating system. The story takes place in the near future, and the writer has purchased the first version of an OS with artificial intelligence.

Her is a quiet, thoughtful film. It’s an examination of what defines a “relationship.” It’s a commentary on an online society. (The writer works for an online business which produces “handwritten” letters for people who don’t want to write them.) It’s a lot of things, and it’s amazing.
